A drug that can both activate and block opioid receptors. Depending on the conditions, partial agonists can produce effects similar to those of either agonists or antagonists. In combination with naloxone, it creates the opiate addiction treatment drug, Suboxone® and combined with naltrexone, it creates the opiate treatment medicaton Subutex®.
